Rights for people with disabilities
We work for an inclusive and equitable society where the rights of people with disabilities are fully realised, and barriers are removed.
“Nothing about us without us.” is the motto of the global disability rights movement.
Towards a common goal
We believe the exclusion and discrimination of people with disabilities is wrong in every sense of the word.
Through advocacy, we work for an inclusive and just society where the rights of people with disabilities are fully realised, and barriers to their equal participation are identified and dismantled.
Light for the World aims to influence governments, policymakers and lawmakers to ensure their work involves people with disabilities at every stage. In achieving this, we can raise awareness for the rights of individuals with disabilities within our focus areas of eye health, inclusive education, economic empowerment and beyond.
The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) forms the basis of our work. “Nothing about us, without us”, the motto of the disability rights community, guides our efforts.
We work in partnership because making sustainable changes requires strong allies and cooperation at all levels. As a non-profit organisation, we support local and national disability rights advocacy through our country offices. Also, we actively advocate towards regional entities, such as the African Union, the European Union, and international organisations.
Together with Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), Governments and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), international agencies and networks, we fight for inclusion in development cooperation, humanitarian action and everyday life.
