In 2009, Burkina Faso ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. However, persons with disabilities were still facing challenges to exercise their right to full participation in political and public life (Article 29). Political parties are not aware of the power of persons with disabilities as voters and political leaders, while at the same time increasingly more young persons with disabilities show interest in politics. To support the national election body to facilitate the full participation of persons with disabilities throughout the elections processes, Light for the World assisted in launching an official guide to inclusive elections for Burkina Faso.
